Macular Degeneration

What Is Macular Degeneration?

Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of blindness in the United States.  There are two types of macular degeneration.  Dry macular degeneration and wet macular degeneration.  Dry macular degeneration is monitored carefully for progression into wet macular degeneration.  Wet macular degeneration is treated with injection of medicine which can save and often improve vision.

Both forms of macular degeneration can be minimized by wearing UV protection and not smoking.  Maintaining a healthy diet also important.  Patients with macular degeneration need to have an eye exam yearly or more frequently depending on severity.
